it has been almost a week since the devastation hit japan…tsunami…earthquake…radiation…for me…it was that feeling of helplessness…same feeling i had when 9.11 happened…and even though i was far enough removed from it…i wasn’t…for 9.11…i lost many friends…clients on that devastating day…for japan…although i had friends that were there…i know now they are safe…
so where does that leave us? is it because we are so far removed…that we just keep going on with life? in one respect…we need to…but on a human level…having compassion for another human being…whether they are in our backyard or not…seems the right thing to do…
and for this…i felt prompted to write this post…nothing about fashion…nothing about trends…just about people…people in need…people desperately needing our help…the thing with the devastation in japan…it is not something that can be fixed in a day…a week…a month…this will take years and years…and although we are safely tucked away in our every day lives…we cannot forget what the poor people in japan are going through…
wendy brandes…a jewelry designer…who i admire tremendously…wrote it far better then i ever could…in her march 17th post…i hope that you click on over and read it…
fashion bloggers are uniting…to help in any way we can…to realize that although we love fashion…we love the business…sometimes…there are just more important things to discuss…and today…for me…it is all about japan…
my thoughts and prayers are with the people of japan every day…as much as they need our prayers…they need supplies…food…shelter…etc…if you are able to help…click here…which will take you to a great list of links to charity and news sources that wendy brandes put together…
fellow fashion bloggers: wendy has also given permission for us to use this image…so if you feel in your heart…to share…and encourage others to get involved in any way that they can…
Thank you for your thoughtful post. My heart is heavy with concern for Japan and the Japanese people. We should all do what we can to help.
thanks suzanne…so heart breaking…and the thing is…i think no donation is too small…so yes…i agree with you that we should all do what we can to help…
Thanks for spreading the word, Elena.
Really beautiful post … so hard to capture the emotions and helplessness of the more than unthinkable events in Japan.
wendyb – thanks for setting up the links…it was a huge help!
thank you “in new york paris tomorrow” (btw…i have ALWAYS loved your blog title) – big events/disasters that happen affect everyone in different ways…and although we all feel helpless…there is always something that we can do…
