how do i take care of it?

it’s inevitable….you have to care for your clothes…how much time and money do you want to spend doing it? high-maintenance clothes are like high-maintenance friends…they need a lot of attention…that being said…i think i keep my neighberhood dry cleaners in business…

when i am shopping for clients…this is an area i have to consider…for their lifestyle…some like me…know their dry cleaners by name…others will only consider clothes that are wash and wear…the key to keep in mind…is that you can look fabulous in either category…

so…ask yourself some questions…and see what works for you…

how delicate is it?

how easily does it stain?

and…how careful are you willing to be while you’re wearing it?

think about how often you’ll be putting it on…and for what kind of event…

will it be subjected to baby drool…hot-weather perspiration…or salad dressing?

does it have to be dry-cleaned? hand-washed? ironed?

if it’s an outfit you reserve for special occasions…then maybe you can handle the burden…if you’re planning on wearing it daily…you might want to opt for something that’s a little easier to love and care for…

  1. I love beads and sequins and that’s always expensive to take care of. I had a navy silk Nanette Lepore top that had tonal sequins around the bib of it and when it came back from the dry cleaners, they were silver. I still wear the top and love though it’s not the same.

  2. I definitely stay away from things I have to dry clean! I have a laundry bag with my things that need dry cleaning and it’s been sitting there for over a year! Until now I had forgotten all about the dresses that are in there!

  3. Dry cleaners make a fortune. Seriously.
I tend to wash a lot of stuff in Woolite, cold water and hang dry. Besides, I’ve had dry cleaners ruin things!

  4. jennifer – yes…i’ve had my moments of picking something up at the cleaners…and it not looking like i left it =/
i…like you…have lots of beads and sequins on the clothes…
denise – you crack me up…how do you forget dresses? didn’t you want to wear them again?
stacy – yes…i have started cleaning a lot of my items with woolite as well…takes time…but at least the clothes are in good condition…
until…i get lazy…and then it is back to the cleaners…
thank you for your comments ladies…

  5. Dry cleaning is such an issue for me. When I started dressing to impress all of the clothes I bought were dry clean only. I bought the dryel kit to dry clean at home. They are fairly inexpensive and I just have to realize that some pieces can be worn more than once before dry cleaning them.
