i am a big believer of a wardrobe that supports a lifestyle…while clothing should seamlessly fit into your current lifestyle though…i think that it can also serve as a motivator to go after the lifestyle you desire…that is…if you are truly pursuing this new lifestyle…
so…what do i mean about having a closet match your life? when i was truly entrenched in corporate america…my go to outfit every single day was a suit…now…i will admit…i had LOTS of suits…in an assortment of colors…that was my personality…i couldn’t do the basic black, brown or navy blue….instead i had suits in purples, royal blue & neon colors…and it worked for me…along with my huge assortment of cocktail dresses for after hour events with clients, conferences etc…that being said…i didn’t have a lot in the way of casual clothes…because i truly only wore them on the weekends…so i didn’t need much…
fast forward to when i left corporate america…opened up my own business as a wardrobe stylist…my closet did not match my new life…although i was still in the business world…and networking…my suits were not working for this arena…so i had to really look at my closet…and the imbalance…and start to re-work it…little by little i got rid of most of the suits…keeping a few classic ones…because i knew they would be needed…just not as often…and started incorporating my new lifestyle wardrobe…
did it happen overnite? no…but little by little…the perentage of suits to my everyday wardrobe consulting outfits…switched in ratio…and balance was once again restored in my closet…
so…take a good long look at the items in your closet…if you are a stay at home mom…where your day consists of carpooling & soccer games…yet your closet is mostly full of dressy clothes…that you never wear…there is an imbalance there…
or…if you are starting a new chapter in your life…and you are thinking of joining the dating pool…and your closet consists of suits (for work) and sweatpants (for lounging around) and nothing in between…there is imbalance…
and by all means…if you need help…there is nothing wrong with hiring a wardrobe stylist to help you figure out where your imbalance is…what could be re-used in a different way…what needs to go…and what pieces are missing…
celebrate the life you are living now…in clothing that fits every area of it!
