while i am always looking at adding some new versions of beach cover-ups for myself…usually…the actual cover-ups being sold don’t work for me…i like thinking double duty…meaning…using an item as a cover-up…but then mixing it into my wardrobe as well…
so where to look for some pieces? truly depends on what you are looking for…but i say…go to pieces that are unexpected…pieces that still simply float around your body as an unexpected accent…yet making your swimwear appropriate for grabbing a drink on the boardwalk…or running into a bistro for a light lunch…
for me…it is all about coverage…but still feeling and looking put together…here are some fun ideas…
make your maxi dress pull double duty…one of the easiest pieces to slip over your bathing suit…pick colors that you love…pick the length you prefer…and you are set…i would also add…a maxi skirt will do the same…i’ve added a maxi skirt to my strapless one piece bathing suit…and felt perfectly covered…just enough…you might also look for some fun drawstring pants…if you are feeling adventurous…look for sheer ones…just enough coverage…adding a bit of mystery…without taking away all your shape…
caftans are another great addition for beach cover-ups…and again…they can pull double duty…as with the maxi dress…the lengths vary – so you can truly find one that is perfect for you…and when not at the beach…a perfect summer “dress” for those summer days & nites…of course…i wouldn’t advise a see-through lace one for a dress…unless you had on something underneath… =)
kimonos – whether modern or vintage…add just the right coverage for your bathing suit…a fun way to add color & prints too! and once you are done at the pool…use it as a fun “light” jacket over your tank top and jeans…double duty!
the tunic dress…comfortable & chic…a fabulous combination…then pair it with a lovely pair of your summer white jeans…or linen pants…and you’ve got another fabulous summer outfit…
what do you use for a beach cover-up? do you like the idea of your clothing playing double duty for you?
