velvet kimono: 3 ways

today i wanted to feature my velvet kimono…i purchased this lovely a few years back…i loved the idea of having at least one for my fall/winter wardrobe…as most of my kimonos are worn in the spring/summer months…this one had everything i was looking for…velvet and beautiful fall colors…

if you have been reading my blog for a while…or following me on social media…or better yet…one of my clients…you for sure have heard me talk about wearing items in your closet…AT LEAST 3 different ways…that rule applies when i’m working with my clients…and i use it in my own wardrobe…

i’ve worn this velvet kimono many times…but i wanted to show a few of my choices through the last few years…

while this velvet kimono doesn’t need much…as it makes a statement on its own…i do like to add my own little touches…so here i added some fun velvet booties…i mean…it’s a bit more color…and i think it really brings out the beautiful florals in the kimono…

as with most of my pieces in my closet…i am always looking for ways to dress it up…as well as making it a casual outfit…no need to be saving those pieces for special occasions…i say…wear those beauties…as much as you can…

going casual was easy with this piece…what is better then a good pair of jeans? i opted for a different pair of shoes…as i could have easily worn the same booties as in the above photo…but…i have lots of options…and one way that i do change up my outfits…is changing out the shoes…talk about a simple but huge change…i opted for my fun oxfords…simple, comfortable and i still look put together…

i wore this same velvet kimono to a dinner party with colleagues and friends in sonoma…while i usually would wear heels for an evening event…i opted for my fun oxfords again…so to change up the outfit…

add in different accessories…i was loving how this necklace went perfectly with my velvet kimono…add in some fun cocktail rings…and you are set for a fun outfit…

i have to say it is such a fun way to add prints and colors to your outfits…the best part is how comfortable they are…and add an instant put together look to the most casual of outfits (think jeans and a tee)…next up i am looking to add this lovely velvet kimono to a dress…i think that would be a lovely outfit…i’m hoping to find one in a fun burgundy or pink…i feel that would really change the look of this kimono…

do you have kimonos in your wardrobe? do share in the comments below as to how you wear yours!
