i remember the first time i saw this skirt in the store…absolutely loved the print…loved the length…but pleats? i’ve got hips…and they are not small…i tried it on…again…the print is so fabulous…and different…and i needed some new longer skirts…so i figured…i could make it work…somehow diminish my hips…make it look proportionate…
so for my first look…i wanted to mix patterns…i loved the idea of a bold striped blazer with my flowing long skirt…the length of the jacket really helped minimize my hips…and of course…in true elena style…i couldn’t stop…and added a polka dot blouse…3 patterns playing nice with each other…
i thought the pop of white boots would be a fun addition to the outfit…yes, black would have worked…but white just seemed a bit unexpected…which is usually what i go for…
and then i topped it with my glitzy sunnies…this is probably one of my fave outfits…it has all the elements i love…color…pattern…and the mixing of patterns…
my second look is mixing patterns as well…although a bit more in the same color family…
for those interested in pattern mixing…i do believe that when you buy pieces that you love…in prints and colors that you gravitate towards…eventually…the print mixing starts to happen…there have been times where i am standing in my closet…and two pieces that i never thought of wearing together…are hanging close by each other…and i see the potential…has that ever happened to you?
and again…for me…when creating outfits…it is all about the tiny details as well…the gold writing of “champagne” in my tee…the gold hoop necklace…the studs on the heels of my boots…you can’t see it in this picture…but the side of my sunnies has polka dots…i believe all the small details…make for an interesting outfit…dress with intention!
my third look is my casual approach to wearing this skirt…i believe in wearing your clothes as many ways as possible…dress them up…dress them down…the possibilities are endless…
on this particular day…it was hot…we hit triple digits…which is rare in my area…and i had a long day ahead of me…shopping with a client…returning past purchases for clients…AND a closet revamp…all i knew was that i needed to be comfortable…and i really wanted to be in my keds…
so that is just what i did…i put on my keds…added my fun skirt…with a graphic tee…and i was set for the day…although i was very casual for client appointments…i felt put together…and like i still had a “style”…
and the best part? my feet were not screaming at the end of the day…
so what piece of clothing have you style more than one way? do share in the comments below…
