before you pack away your summer things…

as a child…summer was obviously over when school started…of course…that was always after labor day weekend…is it me? or does it seem like school is starting sooner and sooner…so in my mind…it is still summer…but my facebook newsfeed is full of parents posting their child’s “first day of school” pics…

guess summer is coming to an end…

so next will be the packing away of summer clothes…but before you do…here are some helpful tips to guide you through it…i mean…even though it isn’t spring…as in spring cleaning…now is a good time as any to look over your items…why pack up for another year…items that were not even worn this season? and…come next summer…you will be delighted with your unpacking…

the items that don’t fit – this could be the items that don’t fit your current size…as well as the items that don’t fit your lifestyle anymore…why hold on to them? they are taking up precious storage space…and they are constant reminders of the size you are not…why do that to yourself? just get rid of them…

the staples – tees and tanks…they need a complete check-over…stained armpits? yellowed “white” tees? don’t you dare pack them up for next year…get rid of them…and replace them…you may even be able to find some great replacements on the sale racks at this time…stock up with your favorites…

stained/ripped items – another needed check-over…do not pack up something that has a stain on it…be sure everything is clean and ready to wear next summer season…stains set over time will only get worse…and harder to remove…get any buttons replaced…rips etc…fix them all before packing them away…

accessories – don’t forget to look over your shoes & handbags…come spring/summer…you want to be ready with your outfits…and not have to worry about getting shoes re-soled…or removing a stain from a handbag that has sat around for months…

make a list of all the items that need replacing…keep them handy in your packing…just in case you don’t find them now…you will have a good list to start you off come spring-time…when you start taking all these items out of storage…

and before you put everything away…look at your summer clothes in a new way…with a few tweaks and additions…many of your summer pieces can be great for transitioning into fall…you know those days where it isn’t a full on summer day…but not a freezing cold fall day…

on tomorrow’s blog post…i’ll go over some tips of transitioning your summer pieces to fall…

stay tuned…
