treasure hunting for spring…

while it seems that we, here in the bay area…never had anything remotely close to a winter season…spring is definitely here! have you started thinking about your wardrobe? if you’ve been to the mall…you will see that spring is in full bloom…

so while the fashion industry would love for you to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe each season…let’s be real…that just isn’t a reality for most…the key is…to learn what the new trends are…and first stop shopping should be in YOUR closet…yes…you heard me right!

let’s call it…a treasure hunt…you may have held on to some items that are currently on the “must-have” list of fashion editors…here are some stand out items for spring to get you started…all you need to do is dust them off…and recycle them into your new spring wardrobe…let the treasure hunt begin…

lace skirts or lace tops…

maybe you left lace behind when you entered your rocker style phase…did you tuck them away in a safe spot? pull them out…a lace skirt will look fresh teamed with a soft cotton shirt with rolled up sleeves…

denim skirts…

denim is fashion’s best friend this season…pull out that denim skirt if you dare…remember, fabric technology has been coming up with better and better ways to create flattering materials…if your denim skirt is as stiff as cardboard, you may enjoy the softer fabric choices in the 2015 version…

bohemian skirts or long dresses (maxi’s)…

maybe you have a coffee table book about the woodstock weekend…crack it open for inspiration for current fashion…anything long and flowy is back in high fashion…

small bucket bag…

if you held onto your smaller bags when the big bag trend came on the scene, you may have some bags that are in great shape…review your handbag stash…

mid-calf skirts…

this length seemed to leave for good somewhere in the 1980s…they were banished but they’ve made a comeback…

shirt dresses…

this was a classic style that had a long shelf life before it was pulled…it’s back again and looking modern, not stuffy…

obi belt…

this asian inspired simple belt would look great wrapped around a fine-gauged cotton or silk dress…it’s perfect for showing off your waist…

peasant tops…

loose fitting tops are a great alternative to the cropped tops that are being shown this season…see if you kept any loose-fitting peasant tops from years back…they’ll be perfect over flared pants…

small silk scarves for a neckline accent…

remember the small scarves that airline stewardesses wore around their necks in the ’70s? that style is back and is perfect when worn with open necked shirts…you may have saved some favorites that could serve you well now…

clutch…

clutch bags are great for nighttime outfits…or you may have some clutch bags that are leather and not too bedazzled, perfect for daytime outfits when you don’t need to carry so much with you…

stripes…

you may have been enjoying stripes forever and be wondering what the big deal is about them now? well, designers everywhere think they’re just fabulous…so pull your striped tops, pants, skirts, or dresses out and get some wear out of them…

skinned bags (crocodile, alligator, python)…

these are items that are often stored away…aunt helen or grandma jean may have passed theirs down to you…they are so popular right now so dust them off and use them…

fringed items…

ankle boots, booties, handbags, and clothing come with fringe benefits this spring season…wear them now and you’ll look modern and current!

now comes the caution flag…you may have some on-trend items of clothing but before you wear them, get a second opinion…jumpsuits are in but does that mean your jumpsuit from the ’80s is now high fashion?

maybe, maybe not…

don’t try to make that decision on your own…i’d be happy to help you figure out what’s already in your closet and in style…or we could discover that those items from the past are ones you still love but are in need of a 2015-updated version in order to be flattering…we can meet in person or we can have a skype style date to get you ready for spring!
